Snatch was a very successful comedy. It came on the heels of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Guy Ritchie’s first movie. Which was a success in and of itself. It didn’t do as good as Snatch did, because Ritchie wasn’t known yet, and the actors didn’t have any notoriety to their names. By the time you got to Snatch, Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones were already popular because of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. And Brad Pitt is, well, Brad Pitt. So, there’s your big name right there. Benecio Del Toro and Dennis Farina aren’t small names either. Even back then in 2000.

But critics say that Snatch is too much like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. But aren’t directors supposed to have their own directing style? Something that they’re known for? Like, Michael Bay’s been making the same bad movie for 30 years now, and critics still say “he’s so inventive…”

Snatch is witty and funny. The first time you see it, it’s surprising. The dialogue still makes me laugh whenever I watch it. And I’ve watched it many, many times. Some scenes don’t have to be a surprise. Some of the scenes are just funny because they’re funny. It’s a well written script. And Brad Pitt’s accent is amazing to me. I don’t know how he pulled that off. He must have practiced that forever. That’s real acting right there. It’s not just an accent, it’s a weird accent. It’s an accent that people with accents find weird. Think about that for a second. How meta is that?

And it all ties together at the end. That’s what you have to love about a movie like this. It’s well written, and all of these plot lines intertwine. And then it all wraps up in the end. That’s the sign of a good movie. Closure. Save the cliffhanger for the after-credit scene if you really want to have one, MARVEL… But, finish up the movie first.

So, yeah. Go and see Snatch. It’s a funny movie with crime and violence. There’s more to it than crime and violence, though. Honestly, there’s not a whole lot more to it than that. That literally is the entire plot of the movie. That doesn’t make it not funny, though. And as always, keep on watching, with a smile on your face…
