Star Wars: Clone Wars – Volume 2 is a series of cartoons made for Cartoon Network and then released on DVD. Like the first volume, they are not official canon, but are more of an extended part of the Star Wars universe. Ironically enough, for not being official canon, the end of the cartoon does directly lead into the beginning of Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith. So, try as they might, it does seem to tie in awfully tightly with the “official” canon, no matter how “unofficial” these cartoons might happen to be.
Unlike the first volume, however, this isn’t a series of short episodes. This is one long cartoon. Taking you on a journey from Anakin’s promotion from Padawan to Jedi Knight, to a time on a distant planet during the war with Obi-Wan, and then finishing off with a camera shot pulling back on the battle happening above Coruscant. The very shot that Episode 3 opens up with.
And I’m a big fan of these cartoons. Not only because I love Star Wars so much, but because of how talented Genndy Tartakovsky is in his animation. It’s such an energetic style, it’s almost made for something like Star Wars. When you put the characters together with the facial expressions that come along with the animation style that Tartakovsky uses, it really makes for a whole other level of cartoon.
And also, it’s a really good story as far as the cartoon itself goes. I think if you didn’t even know anything about Star Wars, and were just watching the cartoon without knowing what was going on, you’d still be pretty entertained by this cartoon. Because it’s just that well done. The scene with Shaak-Ti fighting the servo-droids on the subway is one of my favorites in the entire thing.
So, yeah. Go and see Star Wars: Clone Wars – Volume 2. You saw the other one, why wouldn’t you see this one too? It’s only logical, right? Plus, it literally leads right into Episode 3, which, I can only assume you’re going to watch afterwards anyway. So, you might as well get some extra knowledge in on the way there. And as always, may the force be with you…
