RED = SPOILERS
These Genndy Tartakovsky cartoons are really cool because they fill in a lot of the gaps that you don’t get from the movies. Like, between Episode 2 and 3, Anakin goes from being a teenage Padawan to fully grown adult Jedi Knight in the middle of a war with a scar on his face. Where did that scar come from, you know? These cartoons show that. Plus, Genndy Tartakovsky just has an awesome animation style. It’s just fun to watch. Even if it wasn’t Star Wars. Even if it was something else, it would still be a cool cartoon. Like Samurai Jack. Samurai Jack was an awesome cartoon and they hardly even talked in that cartoon. It was just all action. If Genndy Tartakovsky made more of these, I would totally watch them…
What’s it about? Moving on with the Star Wars marathon, we’re watching the Clone Wars Vol. 2 cartoons. The second half of the Clone Wars where Anakin becomes a Jedi Knight through unorthodox methods and him and Obi-Wan travel to the planet Nelvaan to unknowingly save a group of trapped natives from being experimented on. This ends up being Anakin’s final trial, even though he’s already achieved the rank of Jedi Knight. But before he can tell Obi-Wan about what happened during the mission, they’re interrupted by a message from Mace Windu about the Chancellor being kidnapped by General Grevious and they need to go on a rescue mission immediately. This leads directly into the beginning of Episode 3.
What’s good? I don’t know if I like this one or the first one better. They’re both pretty awesome. The first one is a collection of short stories, while this one is more like an actual movie. It leads right up to the beginning of Episode 3 while explaining how you got there. And it gives you a lot of the interceding details on the way.
What’s bad? The same as last time, there’s not really a whole lot that’s bad about this one. I can’t think of anything I don’t like about this cartoon.
The animation? I’ve always loved Genndy Tartakovsky’s animation style. I never won’t like it. There’s not a whole lot you can say for the guy who made Samurai Jack. It’s just too awesome.
Dooku Teaching Grevious. This cartoon shows Count Dooku teaching Grevious how to use the lightsabers that he became so proficient with. Grevious was originally a military strategist, but then, under Dooku’s tutelage, learned how to fight like a Sith. But without force powers, he needed the added ability of his metal limbs and pneumatic mobility.
Shaak-Ti. Shaak-Ti shows how hardcore she is in this cartoon by fighting all those servo-droids at the same time. Shaak-Ti is a Master Jedi that not many people know of. She’s a pretty obscure name. But she’s a very powerful Jedi on the council with Yoda, Windu and Mundi. It’s just that nobody really knew her until this cartoon came out.
Nelvaan Warriors. This is a pretty messed up storyline because these Nelvaan warriors are being experimented on by the Techno-Union Army and Anakin and Obi-Wan happen upon them and find out about it by accident and end up saving them. And when Anakin is rescuing them, he can’t kill them when he’s defending himself from them, because it’s not their fault that they’re attacking him, because they’re under mind control. So, when the last remaining Nelvaan warrior tells Anakin how to release the others from the mind control, Anakin quickly goes around and sets them all free, so he doesn’t have to kill them all.
It’s Star Wars, the second half of a cartoon that you started, so I shouldn’t have to tell you to watch it. And if you started a marathon, you should be watching it anyway. So now, it’s time to move on to Episode 3. And as usual, May the Force Be With You…
