For a B movie, and let’s not fool ourselves, Cocaine Bear is a B movie… But for a B movie, Cocaine Bear is a lot more entertaining than I thought it was going to be. I was laughing a lot throughout the entire thing. The script really isn’t that bad considering some of the movies I’ve seen. Not that I’ve seen a whole lot involving cocaine addicted bears, but that’s neither here nor there. It’s not just a horror movie. So, it gets to add that comedy element into it. Which is good, because a premise like this just lends itself to jokes. And the writers did a really good job coming up with stuff throughout the film to slip in that wasn’t even involved with cocaine. There’s some good jokes in this movie apart from the plot.

And the acting isn’t bad either. First off, Ray Liotta is, of course, Ray Liotta. That just goes without saying. But the main guy, Eddie, played Han in Solo: A Star Wars Story. I didn’t even realize it until about halfway through. I was like “where do I know that guy from?” Most of the people in the movie do surprisingly well for a B movie. The kids are kids. You can’t really judge their acting. And the couple at the beginning, I think they were supposed to sound like that. But you never really can tell in a movie like this.

I will give them credit for the graphics on the bear, though. Even though they used some no-name special effects company from New Zealand, the bear and its cubs still came out looking top notch. Although, like I’ve said before in previous reviews, it’s getting harder and harder to not have good special effects in this day and age. Special effects are pretty much standard now.

But, it’s a horror/comedy for people who like that sort of thing. It’s not necessarily a “good” movie. I think the word “cheesy” gets thrown around pretty often when people are discussing it online. And you can’t really argue. It checks certain boxes. Stereotypical 80s horror movie tropes that have to be in the movie for it to be called a horror movie. Because, it is set in the 80s, for those of you who don’t know.

So, yeah. Go and see Cocaine Bear. It’s a funny romp in the woods. With cocaine. And bears. Now, I know that doesn’t sound very fun at first. But wait until you’re there. You’ll change your tune then. And as always, keep on watching, with a smile on your face…
