Rated R – 1980 – Comedy – Caddyshack is a 1980 comedy classic with a montage cast that brought many of the stars of the movie who weren’t yet stars, but would soon become household names, into the spotlight. People like Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Ted Knight, and Brian Doyle-Murray. The movie was written by Harold Ramis, of Ghostbusters fame, along with Brian Doyle-Murray and Douglas Kenney. It would go on to become one of the 1980’s comedy standards and created the “upper vs. Lower class” comedy genre of movies of the 1980s.  

Caddyshack is one of those movies where, if you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out. And it’s your fault for not seeing it. Like, it’s a classic of comedy that is on the list of “movies that you should’ve seen already”. I probably saw Caddyshack when I was like 10 or something like that. It’s like finding out Santa Claus isn’t real. How long can you really go in life before you do it? 

But, honestly, Caddyshack jumpstarted the careers of many of the people that we know now as huge stars. People that weren’t known yet. At that point, Rodney Dangerfield was still an unknown stand-up comedian. Bill Murray and Chevy Chase were still on Saturday Night Live. Ted Knight never became a huge star. But he was well respected in the industry.  

And even if you don’t know exactly what it is, or can’t quote scenes, you still know the name “Caddyshack”. You’ve heard it before. You know it’s a famous movie. Because that’s how famous it is. People still talk about it 40 years later. And that’s how you know something is good. When people are still quoting a movie 40 years down the line. Nobody’s going to be quoting “Face/Off” with John Travolta and Nicholas Cage 20 years from now. Nobody’s quoting “Face/Off” now… 

So, yeah, go and see Caddyshack. If not for yourself, then for the generations of people after you that need to see Caddyshack as well. Because, if we don’t leave the beauty of this Earth to our children, what’s the point of having beauty? Or children? And as always, keep on watching, with a smile on your face…
