Deadpool

Deadpool is a 2016 superhero movie starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, and Brianna Hildebrand. When it came out, it became the highest grossing film in the X-Men series, and the highest grossing R-rated film at the time. It also won two Critic’s Choice Awards and two Golden Globe nominations, which superhero films rarely do. It’s a very funny movie, mainly because of Ryan Reynolds, who plays the part of Deadpool almost uncannily. It’s the part he was meant to play. His deadpan delivery style and sharp humor fit almost perfectly with the character in the comics.

Reynolds also had a lot to do with the making of the movie. And not just because he was the star of it. He worked with the executives of the studio to get the film greenlit. He worked on marketing the movie on social media in one of the costumes that he kept from filming. He even paid $10,000 of his own money to pay for the rights to use Bea Arthur’s likeness on a t-shirt in one of the scenes. Ryan Reynolds was all about making Deadpool.

And for good reason. His performance is fantastic. He really was meant to play The Merc With the Mouth. It’s like he knew the character inside and out. It was one of the most faithful representations of a comic book character that I’ve ever seen. As opposed to the many horrible translations of some other more popular characters. (Here’s looking at you Christian Bale…)

The numerous action sequences are very well done in this movie as well. Great special effects in this film. Colossus is all CGI. And the interaction with him between all of the characters is flawless. Which was probably hard to do, seeing as he’s like 8 feet tall, and the guy shooting the takes was walking funny because he had to wear these boots to make him look so big.

T. J. Miller is also great casting for Weasel, the snappy sidekick for Deadpool. They needed somebody who could keep up with Reynolds quick style of comedy, and Miller was the perfect comedian to fit that bill. His delivery style worked well with Weasel’s dialogue the same way that Reynolds worked with Deadpool. It’s almost like a comedy duo, but in a gritty, murderous kind of way.

So, yeah. Go and see Deadpool. It’s funny, it’s a great superhero action flick, it’s sexy, and they’re using bad language. Real adult situations. It’ll make you feel grown up and like a kid all at the same time. And as always, keep on watching, with a smile on your face…
