Waiting

Comedy is my genre. My specialty, if you will. And this movie sits near the top of the list as one of my favorites. Despite its low budget, and a lot of actors at the beginning of their careers, the film has become a cult classic among movie fans. And for good reason. The script is fantastic. The jokes are hilarious. And the interactions between the characters are done so well, it’s like you’re actually in a restaurant. If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant before, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve worked in several restaurants myself, and I can attest to this sort of activity happening on a daily basis. 

The writer and director of the movie, Rob McKittrick, was a waiter when he wrote the script for the movie. So he was writing from experience as he wrote everything out. He wrote the characters based on people that he worked with and he wrote some of the scenes based on experiences that he’d had with people that he’d waited on over the time he’d spent waiting tables. Which makes it even funnier when you think about it, that the things that you’re laughing at, actually happened, in a way. 

The movie didn’t do too well in theatres when it actually came out. The actors were lesser known, and there were bigger movies coming out at the same time. But later on, when the DVD was released, people started picking up on what they missed out on, and it became a hit. Since then, Waiting has been a staple of early 2000’s comedy for most people from that time period. At least, the people who can remember that far back, at any rate.  

But it’s not exactly a classy kind of comedy, if that’s what you’re looking for. There are several kinds of comedy. This is a low-brow, penis-joke, gross-out kind of comedy. It’s chock full of that, if that’s the kind of laughter that you’re interested in. I love a good gross-out comedy. I love to laugh. So, yeah, go and see Waiting, and let yourself laugh for a while.
