Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker is the ninth and final film in the Star Wars franchise. It is also the third movie in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. It once again brings back Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, and has brief appearances by Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. Also appearing in The Rise of Skywalker are characters from older Star Wars movies like Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, and Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine.

I don’t necessarily hate Episode 9, but I don’t really like it either. It could have been done so much better. They took The Last Jedi, and made a lot of good choices with the story. Surprising things that weren’t expected to happen. It started to diverge from what your average Star Wars story had to be. And then, it seemed like when it came back to The Rise of Skywalker, they were almost trying to fix what they did in The Last Jedi. Like they had made a mistake by trying to be original.

Which is a real shame. Because by trying to turn this movie around, it made even less sense than it would have if they had just tried to make a new story in the first place. They could have created a whole new arc and made all new characters and there wouldn’t have been so much volatility with the fans. With plot holes that not only aren’t explained, but couldn’t be explained, even if they did try to explain them anyway.

And as far as plot holes go, the writing in the movie is lacking to say the least. Not only with the dialogue, but just in general. Conflicts are created and solved within minutes. Storylines come from out of nowhere with no real rhyme or reason behind them. And even when the story does progress, it’s either poorly done, or nonsensical.

But I think I’m being a bit harsh. It must be hard to be the last in line in such a storied franchise. To try to tie everything together. I understand that it probably was a difficult task. But that’s what they’re there for, isn’t it? That’s what writers are for. They’re supposed to be able to come up with something for just such an occasion. They are the idea people. And for a franchise like Star Wars, their ideas could have been a lot better than they were.

But once again, I’m not telling you that you shouldn’t see it. It’s the last movie. It ties it all together. It’s the end of the story. You kinda have to see it. It would all be a waste if you didn’t see it. I’m just saying, it’s not the best movie in the Star Wars universe. If you’ve watched all the films, and you’re on Episode 9, so I can only assume you have, you’ve probably seen better. So, yeah. Go and see Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker. And as always, may the force be with you…
