Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi is the sixth chapter in the Star Wars franchise, and the third movie in the original Star Wars trilogy. It is the sequel to The Empire Strikes Back, and it brings back Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Billy Dee, Williams, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, David Prowse, Peter Mayhew, Frank Oz, and James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader. Ian McDiarmid plays The Emperor that tries to convert Luke to the Dark Side of the Force and become his new apprentice.
Return of the Jedi has a different feel than the other two Star Wars movies of the original trilogy. It isn’t light and happy like the first movie, and it isn’t so dark like Empire was. It has a more serious tone to it. Like, things have to happen because we’re on a mission now. It was still science fiction, but it turned it into a space drama at the same time.
The storyline with Luke and Vader takes over the whole movie, and you find out the Leia is his sister and she gets involved too. It makes it seem almost like a soap opera. Like somebody’s going to wake up with amnesia and remember they’re in a dream or something. As much as I love Star Wars, I have to admit, that always did kind of get me.
And then there’s the Ewoks. Star Wars fans are divided on Ewoks. Some like them, some hate them. I personally hate Ewoks. To think that these furry little things with sticks and rocks could come up to storm troopers who have blasters and somehow repel them is a suspension of disbelief that’s a little too much. George Lucas says he based the Ewoks on the Vietnam War and how the Vietnamese fought on their home turf and repelled the invaders and won. Most people just think the Ewoks were a piece of commercialism used to appeal to a younger crowd so that Star Wars could sell toys to kids. And honestly, who can blame them. If you make a movie that big, you might as well capitalize on it.
This review sounds scathing, and in a way, it almost is, as far as my Star Wars reviews go, but Return of the Jedi is still a good movie. I think it’s the worst of the original trilogy. It doesn’t have any of the witty lines that Empire does. And it doesn’t have any of the classic scenes A New Hope has, but it’s still one of the better Star Wars movies. So, yeah. Go and see Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi. And as always, may the force be with you…
