Star Wars: Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones is the second film in the Star Wars franchise, and the second movie in the prequel trilogy. The movie takes place 10 years after Episode 1, when Anakin Skywalker has grown into his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Padawan Learner. Padme Amidala is no longer the Queen of Naboo, and is now a Senator, with former Senator Palpatine being elected to Supreme Chancelor of the Senate.

I think Episode 2 is a better movie than Episode 1 for several reasons. First, the acting is better. Just, overall; by everybody. With the exception of Liam Neeson, most people in Episode 1 were dry and seemed like they were acting for the first time. Even Ewan McGregor didn’t give the greatest performance in Episode 1. He’s even said so more than a couple times that he wasn’t proud of his performance in that first movie.

Secondly, the special effects really took a jump from the first movie to the second. I know the pod racing scene seemed cool and all, and it was, but compared to the special effects in Episode 2, they’re not half as good as say, the fight scene on Kamino, or the battle on Geonosis.

And third, the story just gets better in Episode 2. It’s where Anakin gets his ability to use The Force, and to fight. It’s where the depths of the Sith begin to unravel. You get the first look at Anakin’s dark side with multiple allusions to his future as Darth Vader. Star Wars has always done a great job of foreshadowing and tying a story together. Even more so when they can do it retroactively with twenty-something years to plan…

One thing Episode 2 doesn’t have going for it is C-3PO’s numerous cringeworthy puns, and the couple of little jokes that George Lucas tried to toss into the movie. He may be a master of science fiction, and the creator of the greatest movie franchise ever, but a comedian, he is not…

So, yeah. Go and see Star Wars: Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones. It’s better than Episode 1, and you should be seeing it anyway, because you should be watching all of them in a row. It’s one big long story. I know it takes a while, but if you do it, it’s worth it. And as always, may the force be with you…
