Free Guy is not only a funny movie, but it also makes you think about the philosophical ramifications of artificial intelligence. Or, at least it would if you like to think about those sorts of things. If you don’t, it’s just a funny movie with explosions and a lot of techno jargon that some people might not understand.
It reminded me of The Truman Show sometimes. Especially the ending. Very reminiscent of the end of The Truman Show, where he opens the door at the end of the horizon. I’m not going to say that they got the idea from there, but it had to at least influence it in some way. It was a very popular movie.
But aside from that, Free Guy is an all-around fun time. It’s very immersive for a movie about a video game. The story is more in depth than you would think for something so basic. And like I said in the beginning, throughout the movie, the evolution of Guy’s character really makes you think about the progression of artificial intelligence. If they told Guy what he was, and he suddenly realized that he didn’t exist, would it be ethical to just erase him, or restart him? The future holds questions that didn’t exist years ago.
Not that this is going to turn into some sort of philosophy class. This is a movie review. And there’s plenty of movie to review. The acting in the movie is something to behold. Everyone did a great job. Even the little parts. Channing Tatum was one of my favorite characters in the movie. And he was only on screen for about five minutes.
And there’s some people you wouldn’t know were in the movie if you didn’t read the credits. Hugh Jackman, The Rock, Tina Fey, and John Krazinski are all in the movie. But they’re all just voices. They’re not actually IN the movie.
So, yeah. Go and see Free Guy. It’s not only a good time, but it’s a good intellectual experience. If you’re into that sort of thing. It’s okay if you’re not. I’ve watched episodes of Family Guy too… And as always, keep on watching, with a smile on your face…
