Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool and Wolverine is a 2024 superhero film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. It is the first R-rated movie in the MCU thanks to Deadpool. It was also made after Disney bought Fox, who made the first two Deadpool movies. Making it possible to bring Deadpool into the MCU and bring a whole bunch of possibilities to the movies. It also caused a whole lot of problems that you would expect to have when making a movie like Deadpool and Wolverine with a company like Disney. A company that makes cookie cutter, family friendly films. They had to put out disclaimers before putting out Deadpool and Wolverine to make their viewers aware that this was an R-rated film, just to make sure that nobody got mad at Disney for putting out offensive content without telling people first.

But, moving on from that, I think that this Deadpool isn’t as good as the other two. It’s not bad. It’s still a pretty good movie, for the most part. The dialogue is lacking in a bunch of places. Deadpool himself doesn’t seem as witty as he did in the first two movies. And some of the fight scenes seem to drag on unnecessarily long. Like, they’re just kind of extended, just for the sake of extending them.

And, it seems weird for someone like me to say this, because I curse like a sailor myself, but it’s almost like Wolverine was cursing for the sake of cursing sometimes, if that makes any sense. He was saying “fuck” almost every other word. It was like the writers just sort of thought “Wolverine should curse a lot because that’s how Wolverine should talk…” It really seemed forced.

The story itself was also a little weak. Multiverse stories are always kind of weird, because of all the variables that they bring. But, this one didn’t really do it right. It tried to incorporate everything into one story. That works in the comics when you have multiple issues to leave room for cliffhangers and introduce new characters and surprise people with plot devices. But when you have a limited amount of time like a two hour movie, the multiverse idea is much harder to pull off. Especially when you pull random characters out of nowhere just for the sake of pulling them because their name is associated with the company and they might not ever be in a movie again…

The fight scene at the end is something I did like, where they’re fighting all the Deadpool variants. It shows Wolverine in the classic yellow costume, and he’s moving like Wolverine, and fighting like Wolverine. It’s really well done. I thought that was a good addition to a movie that was almost lackluster in its performances for the last hour and a half.

Given all that, it’s a movie worth seeing. I did like it. It’s still pretty funny, and to have fight scenes attached to songs like “Like a Virgin” is actually kind of genius. So, yeah. Go and see Deadpool and Wolverine. You should like it more than you should dislike it. And that’s a net positive as far as movies go. And as always, keep on watching, with a smile on your face…
