—————————SPOILERS AHEAD—————————-
Movie number two on our double feature was “Joy Ride”. An action/thriller from 2001 starring Paul Walker and Steve Zahn. Everything Paul Walker does seems to involve driving in some way. From this to The Fast and the Furious to dying, he just doesn’t seem to have much luck with cars…
Our movie starts out innocently enough. Paul Walker is talking to his girlfriend on the phone. And then, for no reason, he picks his brother up from prison. Like he’s grabbing groceries on the way home from work. “Oh, and by the way, grab your brother from prison on your way back…”
They play this prank on this trucker over the CB radio and trick him into going to a motel room. But the trucker ends up maiming the guy in the room that Walker and Zahn sent the trucker to. Then the trucker starts chasing Walker and Zahn to get revenge on them for playing the prank on him.
There’s a lot of good action sequences and some very good suspense in the writing. The dialogue isn’t lacking throughout the movie either with the character interaction. Although, the chick who plays Venna, I don’t know if she’s Norwegian, or what she is, but she’s trying really hard to show just basic human emotion, and she’s not that good at it.
Aside from all of that, I’d call it a win. It was worth going through once. Action and thrillers aren’t really my genre. Not my forte… As George Bush Sr. used to say. It’s fun once in a while, but you can’t do it over and over again like you can with comedy. Jokes are the way to go. Why did the clown cross the road?…
